If you know anything anything about Miss Finley Grace, then you know she's a beautiful, sweet, happy girl. But if you don't know...after birth, she was diagnosed with Adams-Oliver Syndrome. It's a rare, genetic condition very similar to Cerebral Palsy. At almost five years old, Finley is unable to sit up, walk, talk or feed herself with out assistance. She also suffers from occasional seizures.
Her doctors feel confident that she will one day be able to do all of these things so over the last several years, Finley has been receiving PT, OT and Speech therapy at private clinic and in her classroom at school. Through her caring and dedicated therapists, Finley has been presented with an amazing opportunity.
We have applied for a device (AAC) that can help her better communicate her needs and desires. I have attached a link below. This device comes equipped with an eye gaze sensor that can track her eye movements as she scans the screen. When she chooses a specific word or communication, the device will speak it out loud for us, and Finley, to hear. This is truly innovative technology.
As you can imagine, these devices and their mounts/attachments can get very expensive. We have filed with our insurance and we feel confident that they will cover up to 80% of the total cost ($15,000). Which is remarkable! We have also applied for some grants through several charitable groups and are currently waiting to hear back with any help they might be able to provide. Unfortunately, we are still coming up short for the remainder of the copay.
I am reaching out, asking for a little additional help from friends and family. This is really very humbling and we aren't 100% comfortable with doing so, but we have to do everything we possibly can to give Finley the very best chance to succeed in life.
If you can find in yourself to even send $5, our family would be forever grateful. Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story and we will continue to keep you all updated on our journey.
