Help Finish Nyakijumba's School Building

A number of Rotarians from Clubs in the Chicagoland area went to Uganda in 2023 on trip, partnering with the Rotaract Club of Kampala South. The partnership involved working on a new school building for children in the area of Nyakijumba. The project is on the final stages and is looking to raise $2,000 for final expenses to get the school operational. The following is an explanation from the Rotaract Club of Kampala South.

Help Us Finish What We Started: A School for Nyakijumba

In the village of Nyakijumba, Uganda, a story of hope has been growing since 2016. That year, the Rotaract Club of Kampala South adopted this community. Since then, we have worked together with parents, teachers, and children to improve clean water access, education, health, and livelihoods.

One of our biggest efforts has been improving the learning environment for the children. At the heart of the school now stand two classroom blocks. The first is a brand new 225-square-meter building we started working on in 2019. It was built to give children a better place to learn, away from the small, crowded, and leaking rooms they used before.

With support from Rotaractors, Rotarians, companies, and generous individuals like you, we have made great progress. The new building is almost finished. The community is excited. But we still need a little more to complete it.

To fully finish the new classroom block, we need to:
• Paint the inside and outside walls
• Install the internal doors and glass for windows
• Do the electrical work so the rooms have light and power

We are just $2,000 away from completing this classroom block.

We also want to improve the old classroom block, the one children have used for many years. It needs better walls, floors, and a roof to become a safe and welcoming place to learn. We need $5,000 more for that renovation that involves replacing the floors, painting the inside and outside walls,. Installing internal doors, and glassses for the windows, plus doing the electrical work so the rooms have light and power. A total of $7000 for the two projects.

Today, we ask for your help. Not for ourselves, but for the children who walk long distances to school each day with big dreams. For the girl who wants to become a doctor. For the boy who hopes to be a teacher.

Every donation, big or small, will help us give these children a safe and clean space to learn and grow.

Please help us light up their classrooms. Please help us finish what we started.

Thank you for being part of their story.
