In 2014, at the urging of magician Penn Jillette, Matt and Mattingly’s Ice Cream Social podcast was launched. It became a place where insightful conversations flow freely, where laughter is plentiful, and a genuine sense of community binds it all together.
For over a decade, Matt Donnelly, Paul Mattingly and Jacob Smith have created more than just a podcast; they've cultivated a vibrant and engaged community around their thoughtful discussions, improv comedy, behind the scenes of the Las Vegas entertainment community, and family life. Our film, "Hey Scoops! The Movie" will take viewers on a journey behind the microphones, exploring the origins of the podcast, the effects on their families, the stories of their dedicated listeners, and the unexpected connections forged through their shared virtual space.
In September, we had an exclusive chance to immerse ourselves in the heart of this community at their semi-annual convention, Scoopfest. Our film, "Hey Scoops! The Movie" will offer an intimate and exciting look at the podcast's impact, culminating in the energy and camaraderie of this special event. This isn't just about documenting a convention; it's about capturing the essence of a thriving online community coming together in the real world. "Hey Scoops! The Movie" will explore the journey leading up to this highly anticipated event, featuring interviews with our hosts and performers as they prepare the 3 day event. The film will then culminate in the controlled chaos of Scoopfest itself, showcasing the unique bonds and shared experiences that make this community so special it preaches fun!
Our vision for "Hey Scoops! The Movie" is to create a film that is as funny and engaging as the podcast itself. We plan to weave together explorative interviews with Matt, Paul and Jacobs, as well as their families, testimonials from Scoopfest attendees, behind-the-scenes glimpses of the stressful ramp up to Scoopfest, and the love and happiness that this festival oozes. We believe this film has the
potential to not only delight existing fans but also to inspire others with its story of authentic connection and community building. To bring this vision to life and share the compelling story of Scoopfest with a wider audience through film festivals, streaming platforms, and community screenings, we are seeking to raise $10,000. These crucial funds will directly support key stages of (post) production, including:
Filming: We still need to interview Matt, Jacob, Penn and more! We'll bring our crew back to Vegas to finish the job.
Art and Music: We need to compensate our artists and musicians.
Post-Production: Ensuring high-quality sound and video.
Festival Submissions: We will be going analog and submitting to acutal film festivals around the world.
Your generous contribution, no matter the size, will be instrumental in making "Hey Scoops! The Movie" a reality.
Thank you for considering this unique project. We believe "Hey Scoops! The Movie” has the power to connect audiences and bring happiness and joy to viewers. In a world where many online communities are hateful and isolating, this film will show what an online community can and should be - our film is an uplifting tale of acceptance, inclusion, creativity and laughter, created by a trio of goofy guys.
