Please consider making a monetary donation to help us in alleviating Shanin’s ongoing extensive medical bills. Thank you for sharing!
To recap, back in September of 2016, Shanin (a deputy with the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Department) was diagnosed with IgA nephropathy. IgA is a kidney disease that occurs when an antibody called immunoglobulin A (IgA) lodges in the kidneys. This results in local inflammation that, over time, hampers the kidneys’ ability to filter wastes from the blood.
Since September of 2016, Shanin has been on and off several different medications in hopes to control and slow down the progression of the disease; unfortunately none have worked and the disease continues to worsen. The different drugs did nothing but reek havoc on her life causing horrible side affects on the inside and outside of her body. One even landed her in the hospital for four days. None-the-less, she continues to stay positive with the amazing support from family and friends.
June of 2017, Shanin met with the Henry Ford Transplant Team and had her case discussed with the transplant committee board. She is currently on the transplant waiting list, but the average wait time is five years. There is currently over 2600 individuals in Michigan alone waiting for a kidney.
Due to her age (26), they strongly recommend she try and find a living donor. A living donor kidney lasts substantial longer than a deceased donor.
Shanin recently had her one year follow up with Henry Ford in September of 2018. They thought they had a match, but unfortunately it fell through. Her toxins are getting too high in her blood therefore she will need to start dialysis in the very near future. Her current filtering rate is roughly 15%. Her kidneys are to the point where they cant filter out the toxins and need assistance. That is what the dialysis will do.
Therefore, we are reaching out to anyone once again in the hopes to find a donor. We know this is a lot to ask, there are risks, but if you are interested or know someone that may be please share.
The website to sign up is www.HenryFordlivingDonor.org. You'll need her first and last name, as well as, her birthdate. If you would like to sign up or have any questions please contact me.
