As many of you know, my body has felt the need to share a special kind of love for itself. The past several years has brought more than their share of medical challenges - 12 orthopedic surgeries, Failed Back Surgery Syndrome, a diagnosis of Mild Cognitive Memory Disorder, and most recently, Lupus. Chronic pain is part of my daily reality, both physically and emotionally. My lumbar fusions corrected structural issues but left me with ongoing pain that’s more intense than before. I went to physical therapy, and it made the pain worse. I do my best to keep moving forward and stay positive but, honestly, some days it's just very hard when your pain is so bad you literally scream and struggle to get out of bed.

Recently, I signed up to volunteer walking dogs at the shelter, thinking I might find a small companion to adopt. After checking multiple counties, I realized there weren’t smaller, low-energy dogs available. With my physical limitations, I knew I couldn't even walk the medium size dog an a small dog was what I truly needed.

Losing Ollie, my Shorkie of 17 years, in November left a bigger hole in my life than I expected. What I’ve come to understand is that having a small, calm dog isn’t just something I want, it’s something I need to genuinely improve my quality of life. A manageable companion would provide purpose and something for me to look forward to each day! My health has been very isolating.

Because of my medical diagnoses, I’m now on disability, which limits my ability to take on the cost of purchasing a small, temperament-tested dog from a responsible breeder. That’s why I created this GoFundMe.

This isn’t about pity. I have a huge heart and over the decades I know I have helped people out in a wide range of ways. I'm asking if you're able to help me out right now, or if I haven't and you’re just a kind person that wants to help someone out, because she needs someone to love and have love her back, I’d appreciate anything you could give, even if it’s $1. It's a big goal, but that's what the “"mellow puppy breeds” cost in Florida. I'm a very proud person, but right now I'm not too proud to ask, because I can't tell you how much I need this and this means.
