My name Sheila Núñez. On the evening of January 3, 2020, my daughter, Melissa Gonzalez was driving her silver Chevy sedan south on I-95 near Northwest 79th Street with her boyfriend, Julian Veliz, by her side. They were on their way to visit her grandfather. But in an instant, everything changed. A single bullet pierced the car window, striking Melissa and ending her life. Julian managed to grab the wheel, and call 911. He survived. Melissa did not.
Melissa was my eldest daughter, and the big sister to Melanie Machado. To us, she was more than just our daughter & sister—she was a guide, a source of joy, and a steady reminder that good things were possible even in hard times.
It has been five years since this happened, and I can’t tell you how much pain I am in. It has been hell from day one. When they gave me the news that my daughter passed away from a bullet, and to this day we still do not know where that bullet came from.
Five years later, I am hoping to raise enough money for a Reward that could lead to new information on the wrongful death of my daughter. Until the person who did this is found I will not stop. Any donation is worthy and helps our cause.
If you have information about this crime, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
