Help Find Gene Doherty: Support Search Efforts

Gene Adam Doherty – “Little Gene” or “Gene – O” to his friends and family, was last seen on July 1st, 2025, leaving his mother’s home in Silver Bay, Minnesota. At the time he was last seen, Gene was described as without his dog, which immediately concerned his friends and family. He may have been experiencing a mental health crisis.

Several agencies including the Sheriff’s Office, Cook County Search and Rescue, and U.S. Forest Service (USFS) initiated a ground search in the immediate area. Due to the close proximityof Cascade Lake to where his car was located, St. Louis County Search and Rescue, along with private contractors utilizing side – scan sonar, were brought into assist with the search efforts, as well as a dog detection reportedly pinpointed Gene’s scent near the Cascade Lake public boat landing, which lead to a concentrated search effort on the lake and shoreline. However, due to the search yielding “negative results” as well as the amount of time he has been missing and the discovery of his vehicle on July 11th, along with the severe weather, lack of personnel and the rugged terrain, the ground search by these agencies has been suspend.

Gene’s family was given the “go ahead” to coordinate their own search efforts, which they started over the last week. While several friends and family have been working tirelessly to continue to search for Gene, they will also be needing additional time, supplies, and additional search equipment to aide in finding our Gene. The funds will be used to support additional gas, hotels, and potentially hiring a drone specialist as well as a different K9 Search and Rescue Crew. Every little bit helps, and we are so thankful for whatever amount is possible for you to donate.

Gene is described as 40yo, white, male, 6 feet, 200 pounds with an athletic build, bald head and green eyes. Anyone with any information regarding the possible location of Gene Doherty is urged to contact the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.
