Help PhD Students Attend IEEE VR 2024

Together with Prof. Carolina Cruz-Neira and Prof. Xubo Yang I am organizing the annual not-for-profit IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Virtual Reality conference to be held in Orlando, Florida, USA, during 16–21 March 2024. This is a conference primarily for Virtual Reality researchers, which includes students, professors, and researchers from industry. Many of the students attending will themselves go on to be teachers, e.g., professors.

This year, together with the DEIA Chairs, we are making a concerted effort to make the conference diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible. In particular, because financial resources can be a barrier for some students to attend the conference, we are pursuing several avenues to raise funds to support the attendance of needy students, including for example travel, registration, and lodging. Organizations such as the IEEE Visualization and Graphics Technical committee, as well as the conference organizers (us), have plans to help offset the costs for some students. We wanted to also give individuals the opportunity to help out — to help advance the education and broaden the participation of select students.
