Help Filmmakers Expose Recidivism (Documentary)

Hello everyone! My name is Asia E. Marche and I am the creator and director of the documentary, titled, A Race to the Reckoning. It explores how America’s racial myths—from slavery through mass incarceration—continue to trap returning citizens in cycles of punishment after they have been released from jail or prison.
Told through the raw and reflective voices of formerly incarcerated men, the film breaks through public silence, spotlighting how criminalized survival, isolation, and political exclusion fuel recidivism-repeat criminal behavior. The narrative centers around healing, truth-telling, and reclaiming freedom—both personal and systemic.

This film also features interviews from others, such as families, educators, children, politicians, and society at large that lend perspectives on the the recidivism rate, its impact on the U.S., as well as how poorly recidivism is measured in California, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.

Lastly, local politicians, students, and formerly incarcerated individuals and their families, as well as allies learn how to execute action steps to stop this cycle of the infringement on human rights and how to help those that are released from jails and prisons across the country to maintain their freedom.

Donate to this campaign now to help us cover costs for

  • Advance Policy Awareness: Increase civic education and engagement by distributing The Democracy Sidekick, voter education guide to broaden political participation (not limited to voting). Permanently place 200+ physical copies in libraries and provide to case managers, social workers, probation and parole officers to make available to their clients.

  • Mobilize our Reentry Support Network: Travel to recruit and mobilize a volunteer base to provide pop-up services that directly support reentry, particularly for individuals on probation or parole. This supports our core mission to reduce recidivism and uplift returning citizens via holistic support.

Enroll at least 25 qualified volunteers across 8 categories-Legal, Education, Voter Access, Mental Health, Spiritual, Entrepreneurship, Tech, Creative Arts.

  • Responding to cuts to federal funding for arts, public broadcasting, and DEI initiatives: the threats making it harder and cause confusion for underrepresented stories to reach audiences. We are equipped with an innovative distribution model such as this social impact campaign with public libraries involvement
