This is Ashley and Dallas's Story written in Ashley's own words:
Dallas has been ill for sometime now with the diagnosis of Epstein Bar Mononucleosis and told repeatedly by the doctor when we kept calling saying that he was getting worse over the last 2 months. Consistently, almost daily, we were told that he just needed rest and it just has to run its course and there was no real treatment because it is a virus that medication will not help only time and rest will improve it and reassured that is was just the mono.
Out of suggestions and help, and Dallas getting worse everyday, we made the decision and just went to Lutheran ER despite the risk of being exposed to the many other illnesses including the epidemic of Corona. We felt that the need was greater than the risk. When we arrived i was forced to stay in the lobby because only patients were allowed in the actual ER rooms.
Maybe 30 minutes, still in tears while i waited feeling very terrified to not be by his side.
Then the nurse came and told me the doctor wanted to speak with us together. So they took me to him. Then the nurse, ER doc, and the minister came in and my heart broke. The CT scan showed an abnormal finding in the liver and "spots" of concern in other places.
He never had mono, they incorrectly read the labs and because of the error we lost 2 months that we could have already been fighting this. The tears ran and the words were unspoken.
My love, my rock, my best friend were going to be in the fight of his life and and we need to have complete trust and surrender to The One who has laid out the stone path that we are facing. However, we are still terrified of the cracks that surround those stones in the path. There were no words. Just silence.
Dallas has some form of cancer. It was found in his lymph nodes and other organs have areas of concern also. He was also found to have fluid around his lungs making it difficult to breathe. A biopsy will be done on Monday to identify the type of cancer we are up against. We are praying that the biopsy shows Lymphoma. That is the best case scenario for treatment options. With all that is happening in the world at this time, the surgeon may not be able to do the biopsy now and it may not be done for possibly a week, then it takes 3-5 days for the results. Waiting is brutal.
Our faith is strong and we are begging for prayers for patience, trust, miracles, and a diagnosis of Lymphoma.
We may not know what the future holds, but we know who holds the future. He can move mountains, we are praying that His plan is to move this one as well. No matter the struggle we are facing, we know that He will carry us when it is to much to keep going.
Friends and Family,
I am Andy Smith, Ashley's brother, Dallas's brother in law.
To say the least this news has been very devastating to anyone that knows Dallas, Ashley, and their children. I know Dallas and Ashley have many friends and family that care about and love them very much. Anyone that knows Dallas knows he is caring, bull headed (lol), smart, funny, hardworking, but most of all a loving husband, father, and friend to many. He has always been there to help anybody out in need and now it is our turn to return the favor. Dallas, Ashley, and their four children (Korbin, Talon, Paisley, and Kipton) need or help. Dallas has a long hard fight ahead of him, but if anyone can win this fight it will be Dallas!!! Please keep them in your prayers, donate, and help out in anyway you can. They are sure to have many medical bills and related travel expenses ahead. Lets help Dallas win this fight and help ease the worries and burden set upon them. If you have any question please feel free to contact me.
