Help Us Open an Accessible Bookstore and Community Space for Fight Back Books
Hi everybody!
We need your help raising $25,000 to secure a storefront and community space for Fight Back Books, an independent, queer, disabled-owned and operated bookshop in Pittsburgh, PA! We’ve been popping up at local events since our launch at the end of October 2024 with a table and our small collection of books, free handmade zines, and DIY stickers.
We want to create a welcoming, accessible bookstore where individuals or groups can browse our selection of new and used books and literature. Our vision includes a gathering place with low-cost refreshments and a space for activities like public cultural happenings; art shows; sliding scale fee workshops; and free community events including book clubs, teach-ins and discussions, children story hour, and so much more.
We believe stories can be tools for radical, transformative social change and peoples’ liberation—and we want everyone to have access to them. With the acceleration of billionaire attacks on basic human rights affecting the poor and working people the most, we are hoping to build an educational gathering place filled with books, literature, and resources to encourage action and to fight back against systemic injustices like classism, racism, sexism, transphobia, ableism, and many other forms of bigotry and oppression.
Here are a few things this fundraiser will support:
- Initial lease costs and utility fees, as well as minor renovations
- Basic furniture and repurposed bookcases
- Expanding our book and literature inventory
Every dollar helps us get closer—toward rent, utility bills, shelves, moving and renovation costs, a larger and more inclusive book inventory, and the overall infrastructure to help us in the next chapter of our journey!
Here’s how you can help us with this labor of love:
- Donate to our fundraiser
- Share this with your networks
- Invite us to your events or collaborate with us!
