Hello everyone,
Thank you for taking the time to consider helping me raise the funds for Figgy.
He is adopted from the SPCA in East Oakland. He came with a considerable amount of damage to his teeth. He has what is known as Stage 4 periodontal disease, also known as advanced periodontitis, which is the most severe stage of gum disease, characterized by significant bone loss, tooth mobility, and potential tooth loss, often requiring surgery and extensive treatment.
What it is:
Stage 4 periodontal disease signifies a high level of gum infection and inflammation, leading to severe damage to the supporting structures of the teeth (bone and gums).
Symptoms:
Severe bone loss: The bone that holds the teeth in place is significantly damaged, leading to teeth feeling loose or shifting.
Gum recession: The gums recede, exposing more of the tooth root and potentially leading to sensitivity.
Deep periodontal pockets: Spaces between the teeth and gums deepen, making it difficult to clean and harbor bacteria.
Pus formation: Infections can lead to pus formation around the teeth and gums.
Loose or shifting teeth: The teeth may feel loose or shift from their original position.
Pain and discomfort: Chewing or applying pressure to the affected teeth may cause pain.
Persistent bad breath (halitosis): Chronic bad breath is a common symptom.
I'm talking to SPCA to attempt to get financial aid. I will keep everyone updated on the process.
NOTE: probably should mention that the estimate the vet gave me was something like 3200. However, that was at the VCA which is slightly more expensive. I am looking into low income options as I said!
