My name is Katie figaros mom.
My hedgehog, Figaro, has been my little companion for years. He’s almost 6 now, and over the last few months his health has been falling apart in ways I never imagined. He’s lost the use of both back legs, he drags himself to move, and he can no longer stand to eat or drink on his own. I hand-feed him liquid food. He soils himself because he can’t hold himself up. I come home from work terrified of finding him stuck or struggling. His health has declined rapidly suddenly.
Figaro has always been strong, stubborn, and full of personality. But now, I can see in his eyes that he’s tired, confused, and hurting. As much as I wish for a miracle, I know I’m watching the end of his little life happen in slow motion. I love him too much to let him suffer just because my heart isn’t ready to let go.
This GoFundMe is to help me afford the cost of his euthanasia and private cremation, so I can give him a peaceful, painless goodbye and keep his ashes with me. I’m doing everything I can for him, but these costs are more than I can afford on my own right now, especially after months of extra care and supplies.
I know he’s “just” a hedgehog to some people, but to me he’s family. He’s been with me through moves, heartbreaks, and some of the hardest years of my life. Losing my chameleon last year broke me, and now facing saying goodbye to Figaro feels like losing the last piece of that little family I had.
If you’re able to donate or even just share this, it would mean more to me than I can put into words. I just want to make sure Figaro’s last moments are peaceful, dignified, and full of love.
i would use my CareCredit card, but unfortunately between him and the chameleon it is completely maxed out.
I told myself that I would know when the time was right and unfortunately, I had to make that call. I’m not quite sure how much it will cost, but I’m going Monday at 4 PM to send him to heaven.
Thank you for reading his story, and thank you for caring about my little guy.
