Help Fig Newton Walk Again – Support His Emergency Back Surg
Donation protected
On the morning of April 24th, our sweet dachshund, Fig Newton, woke up unable to stand on his back legs. We rushed him to our local veterinarian, where we were urgently referred to the Veterinary Neurology team at Mississippi State University. Without hesitation, we packed up and drove to Starkville to get Figgy the specialized care he needs.
After undergoing a CT scan, the doctors determined that Fig Newton has a herniated disc between his T12 and T13 vertebrae. While he currently can’t stand or walk, the good news is that his pain receptors/deep pain sensation are still responsive in both of his back feet—a hopeful sign that gives him a 70% chance at a full recovery. Figgy had his surgery on Friday, April 25th to repair the damaged disc and, hopefully, give him the best chance at regaining his mobility and preventing future injury.
The cost of this life-saving care is significant. We have already been required to put down a $6,000 deposit just to have the advanced imaging and surgery. All donations will go directly toward the overall cost of Figgy’s care at MSU, including his surgery, treatments, and prescriptions. In the weeks and months ahead, he will need post-operative therapy, which may include physical therapy, cold laser therapy, and acupuncture to support nerve healing and pain relief. We are also preparing to make changes around our home to ensure a safe recovery space for Figgy—adding ramps, modifying our porch and yard, and other mobility accommodations to help prevent future injuries.
If you know Fig Newton, you know that he is more than just a dog—he’s our baby. He’s the most loyal little brother to his big doxie dog brother, Remi. He’s brought endless love, laughter, and licks into SO MANY lives over the past four years. There is no price too great for his quality of life, and we’re doing everything we can to afford his treatment and facilitate the smoothest recovery.
If you’re able to contribute, even a small amount, it would mean the world to us. Every donation goes directly to Figgy’s surgery and care. We look forward to sharing updates as he begins his journey to recovery. Thank you for supporting our little guy!
