On October 3rd, what started as a simple autumn hike turned into every dog lover’s nightmare. Fig and Gus were ambushed by a pack of coyotes in broad daylight.
Four coyotes surrounded little Fig before Otis could even reach the top of the hill. She fought like the scrappy terrier she is, but they had her surrounded when Gus — loyal, fearless Gus — charged in to save his best friend. He broke their grip, chased them off, and quite literally saved her life.
As Gus followed them deeper into the woods, he was attacked as Otis heard his cries. Thankfully, Gus made his way back, with his own wounds and a limp, as they all made the trek back to the car.
Fig was rushed to emergency care, where vets discovered a puncture wound that had penetrated her abdominal wall. She underwent life-saving exploratory surgery and had her wounds repaired. Vets repeatedly shared what a miracle it is that she survived, with deep wounds miraculously missing her vital organs.
Fig is now resting at home, drains in place, wearing her cone, being tended to with round-the-clock care. Gus, too, has his share of deep bites and is on medications while he heals from his own battle wounds.
Their humans acted fast and gave Fig the best shot at survival — but the cost was enormous. Between emergency surgery, medications, follow-up appointments, and the time away from work required for intensive recovery, their savings have been completely drained.
This fundraiser is to help cover:
- Fig’s emergency surgery and hospitalization
- Ongoing vet care and medications for both pups
- Follow-up procedures like drain removal and wound checks
- Lost income and work while caring for Fig around the clock
Fig is healing, slowly and bravely, thanks to fast action, Gus’s courage, and the extraordinary care vets, surgeons, Liv, and Otis are giving her.
Now, they could use a little help holding the rest. Let's ease all of their burdens through this recovery.
If you’re able to donate, share, or send love their way, it means the world!
