My name is Gabriella, and through my travels I have been blessed to meet incredible people who embody compassion, resilience, and true strength. One of those people is Fidelia—my “Plant Mother.” She welcomed me when I was in the Amazon, teaching me about love, patience, and the kind of strength of spirit that carries communities forward even in the hardest times.

On August 19th, while working in Cusco, Fidelia’s sister suddenly became very ill and was rushed to the hospital. Doctors discovered that 90% of her intestine was damaged and diagnosed her with acute complicated appendicitis and generalized peritonitis. They told the family to prepare for the worst.

Refusing to give up, the family—alongside supporters—transferred her to Lima, where she was admitted into the ICU at Hospital de Ate. There, doctors gave hope that with surgeries and care, survival was possible. It has been a long, painful process, and she remains in critical condition, needing medications, diapers, and daily support.

Today, Fidelia’s sister is gravely ill in the hospital in Lima. She is suffering, and the family does not have the means to provide the care she urgently needs. Fidelia remains at her sister’s side.
