Fernando's healing fund

I'm Zoe, and I need help for a friend to escape a bad situation and relocate.

In March of 2022, Fernando began experiencing chronic pain and fatigue caused by a COVID-19 infection, resulting in the loss of his job. He tried supporting himself with his artwork but struggled to cover the rent and was given until the end of February to find a new place to live.

After Fernando became homeless he was hospitalized and a neighbor offered to give him and his cat, Indigo, shelter. When Fernando was released from the hospital he discovered there were strings attached: Hygenically the place was a health hazard for his asthma and allergies, and on top of that, the woman who is a white woman treated him like a slave, expecting him to take full responsibility of the cleaning (beginning as soon as he was released from the hospital), take care of her cats, and her son who she has said herself is a violent racist. Fernando also had to pay her $200 a month despite spending hundreds on cleaning supplies, household supplies and cat litter. The woman and her son had been living without basic things such as a trashcan , shower curtain or litter for their cats.

Although Fernando was unsafe and living in stressful conditions he wanted to provide a home for his cat, Indigo. Despite his continued health issues Fernando resumed working in the hopes that he would be able to save up for a safe place of his own. However, after a few months, Fernando was spotted by a worker from the apartment complex head office and the woman he was staying with was given an ultimatum that if Fernando did not vacate the premises within 3 days. Fernando had to crowdfund for the move on short-term notice and pay the woman he was staying with to keep some of his belongings. She initially agreed to keep Indigo until Fernando found stable housing but changed her mind the next day. With no other choice, Fernando had to put Indigo up for adoption.

Having nowhere to go Fernando decided to move to a small town in Minnesota hoping that the affordable housing prices would help him find stable housing sooner. After Fernando arrived in the town he ran into a number of problems. There was no grocery store in the town and since Fernando did not have transportation he struggled to get food nutritious on a consistent basis. Since Fernando has a compromised immune system he wears a respirator everywhere he goes. No one else in the small town did and as a result of this Fernando was harassed for wearing a mask in addition to racial harassment as one of three Black people in the town. Despite the problems in the town Fernando decided to stay. He was hired on at the nursing home in the town but soon had to quit due to health reasons. He attempted to return to freelance writing but his health issues worsened over the summer preventing him from working consistently.

Realizing that the stress from becoming homeless, going through abuse and losing his cat was preventing Fernando from healing and becoming stable, my family decided to welcome him into our home in Tucson, Arizona. We are a covid conscious family who cares for Fernando and just want him to rest and eventually become stable again. Fernando needs this crowdfunding goal to be met to fund his move here. The money will go towards transportation to get him to Saint Paul, a hotel room for one night while there, a plane ticket from the Saint Paul airport to Tucson as well as money to ship some of Fernando's belongings to Arizona prior to his arrival.
