On Sunday, our lovable Bernese Mountain Dog, Fern, jumped on the table and decided to eat homemade play doh when nobody was looking. Two hours later when we got home she was vomiting and in distress. She was rushed to the emergency vet and kept fighting through the high fever, and salt toxicity. Unfortunately, there was cream of tartar in the recipe and that damaged her kidneys. Her current vet bills are going to exceed $20,000. If she has a chance of survival, her kidneys need to heal. This means additional veterinary care, which can be very costly.
