Ferhad Spahic is a new friend I met while on a Disney Cruise earlier this year, where he worked as our assistant server. From the moment we met, Ferhad stood out as one of the friendliest and funniest people I’ve ever encountered. He’s truly dedicated to making every guest’s experience special, and as I got to know him better during and after the cruise, I saw how much he genuinely enjoys life and brings joy to those around him.

Last month, Ferhad returned home to Bosnia during his break between cruise contracts, only to discover that his mother’s health had greatly declined. After a series of doctor visits, they learned she has a serious heart issue that requires major surgery. Unfortunately, this surgery isn’t available in Bosnia, so Ferhad and his family must travel to Turkey for the procedure. The cost is overwhelming, and without health insurance or assistance from others, it’s an impossibility for them. Ferhad never asked for help, but I encouraged him to let me and my friends support him in any way we can. The surgery cannot wait and she will need to have it within a week, otherwise there is little chance of her recovering.

The funds raised here will go directly toward his mother’s surgery expenses in Turkey. During the holidays, I know many of us have extra expenses and giving can be difficult. As someone who recently retired and is on a fixed income, I understand that every little bit counts. If each of us can give just a little, we can make a truly positive impact on Ferhad’s effort to help his mom. Let’s come together and make this Christmas very special for them.
