Help Fenice Continue to Receive Necessary Veterinary Care
Donation protected
I adopted my sweet cat, Fenice (feh-NEE-cheh, Italian for Phoenix) in 2021, when she was two years old. She had already been through a lot in her life, and I was determined to give her the best quality of life I could. During the years since then, I discovered that she had a range of health problems that, according to the vet, are most likely genetic. (The primary problem is feline gingivostomatitis.) These health problems cause her pain and severe appetite loss. Over the past few years, I've spent thousands of dollars every year on Fenice's veterinary care. (Thanks to some fine print, pet insurance won't cover any of the relevant tests, prescriptions, exams, or procedures.) She is 100000% worth it, and the periodic testing and procedures, as well as special cat foods, have allowed her to have a good quality of life...
This summer, I'm currently relying on side gigs for income while I'm between university teaching contracts. (One ended in May, and my new job doesn't start until mid-August.) While I'm excited for my new job, this financially challenging summer comes after already having my savings eaten up through Fenice's prior veterinary expenses, my own medical expenses related to a major surgery and a car crash, and theft.
Yet, as I watch Fenice's symptoms slowly start to flare once again, I know that it is likely that she will need more testing and procedures before I get into a more financially stable place. She is an amazingly sweet, loving kitty, and I love her with all my heart. (To be honest, my pride wouldn't allow me to do something like this for myself... but there's nothing I wouldn't do to keep her well, happy, and comfortable.) As I've gone through hardship, depression, 120-hour workweeks, and finishing my doctoral studies, she has kept me going. Please, allow me to now help keep her going.
Any funds raised will be held in a separate savings account and will only be used for Fenice's care. I'm also more than happy to share receipts with donors as costs arise so that you can see exactly where your money is going. I would appreciate any and all help to take care of my cat whom I love dearly.
