Help Felix (Depot) Walk Again – Emergency Surgery Needed

Every pet parent’s worst nightmare has come true for Candice and her beloved rescue pup, Felix (aka known as Depot).

Felix’s story began in Mexico, in January 2025, when the Salty Dog Rescue team was out on another mission and spotted a skinny, scared little pup wandering the Home Depot parking lot. The rescue scooped him up and gave him the name “Depot.” With care, food, and vet attention, he slowly regained his strength and his spark.

Once healthy enough, he made his way to Canada, where he spent two months in foster care before finding his forever home with Candice. It didn’t take long for this sweet, goofy boy to show just how much love he had to give. Candice gave him the security he had never known, and Depot.. now FELIX gave her his trust and heart in return. He isn’t even three years old yet, with his whole life ahead of him.

But recently, their world was turned upside down. After what looked like a small injury, Felix stopped using his leg all together. Vet visits, X-rays, and testing led to a devastating diagnosis: Legg-Calvé-Perthes Disease (LCPD) — a painful, genetic condition where the blood supply to the hip joint fails, causing the bone to literally deteriorate.

And the worst part? Felix needs surgery on both hips. Without it, he will live in constant pain and lose his ability to walk.

The reality:

• Candice has already spent over $1,200 just to get a diagnosis.

• The double Femoral Head Osteotomy (FHO) surgery and recovery costs are expected to exceed $4,000+.

• During recovery, Depot will also need a quiet space away from his playful dog sibling, which means extra costs for out of home boarding for his fur sibling.

For a young pup who’s already fought so hard for his second chance, this feels especially cruel. But we know from experience that FHO surgeries can be life-changing — they give dogs back their mobility, their joy, and their future.
