Hello, my name is Felicia and I am 54 years old. I am married and my child is grown up now and lives with his own family. My husband and I have always worked hard and never relied on "the system" for anything.
Last year, I had a medical emergency and was admitted for memory loss. I got lost going to work one night. I had been working 4-10 hour shifts per week at a "Chewy" warehouse. My work was hard, but I enjoyed it. The doctors couldn't find any reason for my memory loss but ordered an EEG and referral to a neurologist. It took a few months for the EEG to be scheduled, and during this time, my eyesight started to fail me. I've been taking Ozempic for Type 2 diabetes, and a side effect is diabetic retinopathy. So now, I've been getting eye injections every month to stop any progress of the disease. My eyesight got to a point that I could no longer drive to work at night, and I had used all my FMLA hours for all my appointments, so I left my job. I didn't want to wreck my car and kill anyone or myself.
I cashed out a small 401k account to live on for a few months. The money lasted from February until now. My husband has always worked, and he has a great job, but we still struggle. I plan to go back to work ASAP. They found that I am having seizures from the EEG test, and they were causing my memory loss. I am now on medication for the seizures but still have trouble with my eyesight. I have to work, so I hope to find something I can do until it gets better. Anything will help, and it's really hard for me to ask, thank you for reading my story.
P.S. I hope to pay it forward once I get back to work!
Week one- I really have a hard time sharing this anywhere! Maybe my age group or the climate of this day and age? I hate asking for help if ANYONE! I may end up deleting this very shortly! I donr know how people lose their eyesight and continue to pay bills?! I cant even read what im typing! Hopefully not too many edits!? Anyway, if you read this thank you once again!
