Hi, my name is Olivia Modeste. I am a proud animal lover and advocate. The purpose of this campaign is to raise funds to help The One & Only Cat Sanctuary in Ghana, in the purchasing of food to feed the many animals in its care.

The One & Only Cat Sanctuary in Ghana Africa, was started by fellow animal lover Fiorenza Krejza (Florence) back in 2003, to feed and care for homeless, abandoned and ill cats. Since Ghana has no animal rescue groups at all, Florence took it upon herself to take care of these poor animals in need. She operates the rescue from her own home in Ghana Africa all on her own.

Florence's Story:
Florence is a most caing and compassionate animal lover, and was born in Triest Italy. After spending many years in Spain and Germany, she moved with her husband to Ghana in 2003. As a cat lover, she started to rescue sick and injured cats from the streets. She currently has over 50 cats and 4 dogs in her care, and many require medical attention. Trying to finance the enormous expenses related to her cat sanctuary, she opened a small shop on Etsy but with time, she developed a tremendous interest in the art and craft of Ghana. She became very interested in how they made their beaded craft jewelry, and the reasoning behind the choices of colours were fascinating to her. Hand crafted jewellery is a big part of the Ghanian culture, and so Florence opened a new shop, with all proceeds from the sale of her beads going to her rescue “The One & Only Cat Sanctuary in Ghana”. The money earned from her shop goes towards buying food for the animals, spaying and neutering, as well as paying for any Veterinary care they may need when sick.

As the number of animals in her care continue to grow on a daily basis, Florence is often faced with the difficulty of purchasing much needed food to feed so many animals. She also relies on donations made by other kind animals lovers, but this is only once in a while.

On a daily basis, Florence dedicately cooks rice and fish which she feeds the animals with, as this is what she can afford. She has no one to help her, and does everything relating to their care all on her own, and from the kindness of her heart. In an attempt to slow the rate of new kittens being born into suffering, Florence responsibly spays and neuters all of the animals that come into her care, with the assistance of Dr.Koney's Veterinary Hospital in Accra Ghana.

Although Florence rescues mainly cats, she also has 4 dogs currently in her care who were abandoned and surrendered by their owners. Due to her tremendous love for animals she could not let them go to the streets to suffer, and so she lovingly took them into her care. Food expenses for the animals include:

Rice = a little over 400 Ghanian Cedis for 20kg bag ( 2 per month)

Fish = around 500 Ghanian Cedis for one 15kg carton ( 3 per month)

Dry Kibbles = 850 Ghanian Cedis for a 20kg sack ( 2 per month)

She uses sawdust for their litter, which she collects from local wood factories in town, as she cannot afford the real imported cat litter which is very expensive. Florence dedicately starts her daily cooking of the animal's meals at 9am and finishes around 2pm every day to ensure they at least have a warm meal.

Florence is a very dedicated animal lover. Although she is not obligated to, she takes care of the animals from the kindness of her heart. She strives to continue providing this care for as long as she could, she has been doing so for 20 years now. Knowing Florence has been a very humbling experience for me and I am very thankful to call her my friend.

If possible, please find it in your heart to lend a helping hand by making a donation to this cause. We know times are tough for everyone, but no matter how small, we would greatly appreciate any help. No matter how small your donation is, it would still go towards purchasing even 1 bag of rice or fish for the cats and dogs in her care. By donating to this campaign you will not only be helping these innocent animals have food in their tummies, and live longer, healthier lives, but you would also be helping with the solution to a very big and growing problem in Ghana, of too many innocent cats and dogs being born on the streets, because no one cares to spay and neuter them. In doing so this would prevent too many from being born into difficult lives filled with hunger, pain and suffering. Thank you for reading Florence's story and for donating, no matter how small. Please spread the word to help this cause, and on behalf of Florence, the kitties and myself, we thank you greatly from the bottom of our hearts!
