Each week, the Mount Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry provides free groceries - fresh produce, dairy, frozen meat/fish, non-perishable staples, fresh eggs, and bread - to the most vulnerable members of our community.
My name is Emily Marple and I am a film photographer. This year I am a senior at Fox Lane High School and have been granted the opportunity to be a finalist for the Tingely Scholarship. Throughout the past several months, I have documented the connection of different organizations in our community who address the problem of food insecurity together, and how they have adapted to support increased needs due to the COVID-19 crisis. I worked with Hilltop Hanover farm, Intergenerate, local community gardens, and the Mount Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry. These organizations form an intricate and harmonious network to provide fresh and local produce, a rarity among the shelves of packaged food. For those who would never buy it, organic and local food is now possible. From creating seedlings to nurturing and growing plants, to handing out food, each organization plays a unique role.
I shot, developed, printed, matted, and framed all images and film myself, and am now having a photo exhibit to display them and encourage a discussion about the problems in our own community that are often stigmatized. My goal is to increase awareness and raise money to help support the Mount Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry that serves nearly 500 households in Westchester.
