Help Mercedes DeWindt Feed the Stray Dogs of St. Maarten

I’m fundraising to raise money to help Mercedes DeWindt feed the hundreds of stray dogs inhabiting and roaming the small Caribbean island of St. Maarten.

The island is teeming with unwanted and abandoned dogs. Many of these dogs die of starvation and infection and live an utterly hopeless and miserable life.

Unfortunately, the average lifespan of a stray dog is only 3 years on the island.

A couple of years ago while on the island, I met a kind and selfless lady, Mercedes DeWindt, who has been living on the island for many years. Mercedes is a leader among one of the most well-known animal welfare organizations in St. Maarten called Animal Defenders St. Maarten.

Every Sunday and Wednesday morning, she and her team of local volunteers bring 10 45-pound bags of dog kibble to feed hundreds of dogs at 22 different feeding stations which are located and scattered throughout the island.

On average, 10 bags of kibble per week are needed to feed all of the dogs at the feeding stations.

Unfortunately, funds for dog food have become scarce and Mercedes has had to dig into her personal savings and pension.

Without necessary funds, the stray dogs of the island will starve and many of them eventually will get hurt or killed by moving cars while searching for food.

With your generous donation, 100% of your donated funds will be utilized towards the purchase and shipment of sufficient quantity and quality of dog kibble to feed hundreds of stray and hungry dogs for the next 12 months! 

Countless dog lives will be saved.
