Hurricane Melissa has left a trail of devastation across Jamaica — and my beloved parish of St. Elizabeth (St. Bess) has been hit especially hard. Families, including members of my own, are now displaced. Roofs have been blown off homes, farms are destroyed, and livestock — the very heartbeat of our rural livelihood — has been lost.

St. Elizabeth is known as the breadbasket of Jamaica, the land that feeds the island. So even those who weren’t directly hit by the storm will feel the impact in the days and months to come — through food shortages, higher prices, and broken supply lines.

The west side of the island is unrecognizable. Once vibrant fields are flattened. Roads are blocked by fallen trees and debris. Children and elders are trying to stay safe under makeshift shelters. Yet, even in all of this, the Jamaican spirit remains — strong, resilient, and full of faith.

Who I Am & Where I’m From

My name is Oneesh Falconer, and though I now live in Florida, my heart remains in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, where I was born and raised. That parish is my home, my roots, and my connection to the people who shaped me.

My Relationship to Those Affected

The people I’m raising funds for are my family, my friends, and my community. Many of them have lost their homes, their crops, and their means of income overnight. My own relatives are among those trying to rebuild after losing roofs, livestock, and everything they’ve worked for.

How the Funds Will Be Spent

All funds raised will go directly toward purchasing and shipping essential supplies to families in St. Elizabeth and nearby areas. These will include:

• Non-perishable food (canned goods, rice, and flour)

• Toiletries and hygiene products (soap, toothpaste, wipes, feminine care)

• Solar charging devices and batteries for light and communication

• Basic emergency and repair items (tarps, flashlights, first aid supplies)

I will personally purchase and pack these items into barrels and boxes in Florida, then ship them directly to Jamaica, where trusted local contacts will help distribute them to families most in need.
