We are building a lifeline for one of Guatemala’s most overlooked dog shelters. Chuchotenango, located near Antigua, is run with love — but without resources. The dogs urgently need food, vaccinations, and spay/neuter care. Every donation brings hope.
Who We Are
We are Martin, Tom & Theresa originally from Germany, and we moved to Guatemala with one clear mission: to help rescue and protect street dogs. After some time in Antigua, we discovered a hidden shelter called Chuchotenango — a place full of love, but desperately lacking support.
Meet Chuchotenango
Chuchotenango is run by Obel, his son Isai, and their family. They founded this shelter out of pure compassion for the countless abandoned dogs in their community.
They receive very little public support, almost no donations, and the shelter remains largely unknown in- and outside their region. Yet every day, they care for over 50 dogs — feeding them, treating wounds, rescuing new cases, and offering each dog a safe place to heal.
They do all of this despite having very limited income, no government assistance, and rising costs for food and veterinary care.
Why We Are Asking for Help
The situation has reached a critical point.
- There is not enough food to feed all dogs consistently.
- Many dogs are unvaccinated and at risk of deadly diseases.
- Most are not spayed or neutered, leading to more suffering on the streets.
- Emergency vet bills are constant and overwhelming.
Obel and his family give everything they have — but love alone cannot buy food, vaccines, or medical care.
Our Goal
We want to secure the shelter’s most urgent needs:
1. Ensure consistent food for all dogs
No dog at Chuchotenango should ever go hungry again.
2. Vaccinate every dog
Essential vaccines: Rabies, Parvo, Distemper, and Combination Shots.
3. Spay & neuter all dogs
The most effective way to reduce suffering long-term.
4. Cover basic and emergency medical care
Treatment for infections, injuries, parasites, and critical cases.
How Donations will Be Used
We believe in full transparency. Your donation will go directly to:
- Dog food for 3 months ~ 1.350 €
- Vaccinations (all required core vaccines) ~ 450 €
- Veterinary treatments & emergency medical care ~ 600 €
- Basic shelter supplies (cleaning materials, parasite control, bedding, etc.) ~ 200 €
- Materials to expand and improve parts of the shelter (the land has space, but funds for construction materials are missing) ~ 400 €
Funds will be received through us and transferred directly to the shelter or used to purchase food and medical care locally.
We will post regular photo and video updates so supporters can see exactly how donations are used.
