Donate $23 to help refugees from Myanmar

Donation protected
They've been forced to flee their homes and now have to survive on whatever they can find in the jungle.  Some have started eating rice with frogs, rice with birds, rice with spiders, or whatever is else available...

As you might have heard in the news, the military in Myanmar has overthrown the elected government and has started attacking its own people.

As a result, many people in Myanmar have fled their small huts and are escaping into the jungle.  Our friends that live in neighboring Thailand say that: "Mothers carry kids in the jungle, and children walk through the jungles to hide from the soldiers. Some fathers die trying to protect their family. Because of all this, many families are falling apart and need help."

Our friends in Thailand live relatively close to the border with Myanmar and their church is helping these refugees.  They have "helped over 290 kids and 100 adults by providing a safe place for them to stay and helping the kids go to school."   They have been providing rice and dehydrated foods to this group of refugees and would like to continue supporting them in the coming months until some day things calm down and they are able to go back to their villages.

Our friend's church would like to provide bags of rice, which is their staple.  There a 45 kg. (99 lb.) bag of rice costs $23 and they need 100 bags per month to feed the 390 adults and children.  Because the church is wanting to take care of these refugees long-term, we would like to raise enough funds for them to purchase food for the next six months.

Here is some of the food already provided...

So our goal is to raise $13,800 so that our friend's church can provide rice to these refugees.   They are delivering food to the refugees already and so need the funds relatively soon.  We'd like to send the funds over in a week or two from now.

Our family recently received our stimulus check from the bill that Congress passed.  However, we are doing well and Elvin's job is stable, so we've decided to use some of what we've received to help feed these refugees.

It's amazing to think that when our family goes out to a fast food restaurant, we easily spend $23 for one meal.  However, this same $23 can also buy a 99 lb. bag of rice which can feed four people for a whole month!

We will be sending the funds to our friends via PayPal as soon as it comes in.

If you have a gift account that requires you  to donate to a 501(c)3 charitable organization, feel free to donate to the Shade Tree Foundation at this link instead of this GoFundMe site, and include a note saying "For Karen Refugees".  This will get you a receipt for tax purposes.

In case you were wondering, this particular group of refugees are 90%  Karen people, which is a minority group that live in Myanmar and Thailand.  The rest of the refugees are a mix of the Kachin, Tai Yai, and Rohingya peoples.  Please let us know if you have other questions; we can answer them and if we don't know the answer, we can email our friends in Thailand.

Thank you so much!
