On June 30th, 2021, at 4:00pm our host at The Elephant Home, in Southern Uganda, informed us that people were starving in our nearby village.

We had been into town shopping two days earlier, and many of the shops were closed and the streets were very quiet.

Jason informed me that it was because people were now so hungry, they were staying inside all day and sleeping. Shop owners didn’t have the energy to run their shops, and people had no money to spend on them anyways.

We were clearly witnessing the total collapse of this village.

After asking him a few questions to get a scope of the size of the village, and figuring out just what we would need to get everyone fed, I decided that I was going to try.

I had no idea if friends in Canada would care about the plight of this small African community. But I knew that if I didn’t at least try, I would never know the answer.

I quickly made a video with a simple plea. I asked people to please send money to help at least pull these people from hunger. Within minutes, e-transfers started rolling in from my Canadian friends. Teary-eyed and exploding with excitement, I ran to tell Jason that money was coming, and we should make a plan to buy food the following morning.

Before the next morning, we had raised $3000CAD, much more than enough to go into the nearby city and purchase food.

By the end of that day, we had packed 76 bags of food to go to 76 homes.

The next day, the rest of the bags were also filled 176, in total, and an entire village of people was then fed. That night, I felt a quiet across the land, a sense of relief that people weren’t tossing in their sleep from hunger pains.

In total, we fed the village for 10 weeks and brought them clean and fresh water for that duration. We also raised money to bring them a beekeeping workshop so that they could use the bee boxes that had been donated to them, plus brought them some equipment to continue on with their enterprise.

We also taught them composting and soil building, and the community garden that we started has been continued.

But now we are at a critical place again.  They are again suffering from long drought periods and we can see that in order to really solve their problems of starvation, we need to bring them a freshwater source.  Of course, teaching them composting and soil building is not helpful if they don't have access to fresh water.

So we are now attempting to raise money for a borehole (well) which will accomplish just that.

Please view our latest update below which will clarify what our intentions are for this project.  Thank you so much for your kind and compassionate hearts and your want to continue helping these villagers.

TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER!

Let’s change the world shall we!?
