Help feed, house, educate orphans in Uganda

CURRENT NEED:
They just found out that they only have 2 months left in their current rental space. They need our help!! Last year I asked Kugonza to do some research on what it would cost to build their own space (because they are "rent-insecure" every month and it's always a fear that they will be evicted). The number was low by US standards...about $3000 for the land and another $6000 for a building that would be theirs forever.

My husband Dennis, son Ian, and I have been offering financial and emotional support to The Hope of Christ Children Centre after we made the acquaintance of the incredible founder, Kugonza Patrick and his wife, Elizabeth, this past year. We have regular phone calls and face times with Kugonza and the children and have grown close to this cause of child homelessness and abandonment.

Approximately 39 children currently reside at the Hope of Christ Children Centre. A small number of volunteers work tirelessly with Kugonza and Elizabeth to help shelter abandoned children from the area, the majority of whom were found living alone on the streets or in empty houses and eating from the trash.

Their work is dedicated to delivering basic necessities like shelter, food, clothing, love and more to the children, as they strive to improve and better their lives one day at a time. Their goal is to help the children become independent and self-sufficient young adults who can eventually work and take care of themselves. This has been a particularly rough few years for them due to covid. We're aiming to relieve some of the burden that these children (volunteers) have faced.

Founded in September 2019 by Kugonza Patrick, who was born and raised in Hoima District of Uganda, Hope of Christ Children Centre was based on the premise of restoring hope for orphaned and abandoned children. The Centre is located in the Uganda, City of Kampala within the Bugiri Municipality.

The work that Kugonza and his volunteers do is awe-inspiring and we are humbled to know and support them in a small way. We wanted to open up the opportunity for others to do so on their own. The Centre could not do what they do without the support of donors and we cannot stress how deeply they appreciate financial support, as any amount makes a huge difference in bettering the children's lives.

Beyond food and shelter, the Centre provides for their educational and medical emergency needs as well. Recently, three of the children were hospitalized with malaria and the medical bill alone was $165.

UPDATE: TAKEN CARE OF!!!! :) THANK YOU! New mattresses and bedding. The children sleep on old (and often soiled) mattresses that are very thin and flimsy and often without proper sheets or any pillows. Please help us raise funds so that they can sleep comfortably as EVERY child should...especially the ones of school age who need to be rested, refreshed and alert for school each day. Please help with ANY amount!!

UPDATE: 35 of the 41 children returned to school in January for the first time in 2 years. It costs approximately $30-$35 for each child's school uniform, book bags, school supplies and shoes. WE did it!!!! Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts!!!!

Note: Currently the Centre is lacking government funding, despite multiple applications, due to limited funds in this Municipality. For this reason, they rely heavily on the support of generous donors to assist in their operations.
