Support Elmhurst Covid-19 ICU Workers

Donation protected

Dear family and friends,

Thank you for your support in this battle against Covid-19 and for doing your part - whether it be staying at home or providing essential services for our society to continue functioning.

I am sure you have all seen the New York Times article and video featuring Elmhurst Hospital, otherwise known as the epicenter of the epicenter of the Covid-19 crisis, by now:
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/25/nyregion/nyc-coronavirus-hospitals.html

My name is Caleb Fan and I am currently a third year Mount Sinai Otolaryngology (ENT) resident working at Elmhurst Hospital. As a physician in this hospital, the situation is truly as dire as is depicted in the video. The emergency department is overrun with patients and as a result, the ICUs are past capacity to the point where new ICU units are being created.

To help meet this ever evolving need, the Mount Sinai Otolaryngology Head and Neck Residents (ENT) have volunteered to help staff one of these new ICUs.

Click the link below to meet our ENT residents:
https://icahn.mssm.edu/education/residencies-fellowships/list/msh-otolaryngology-residency

Currently, the residents comprising the ENT ICU teams are:

Team Alpha
1) Arvind Badhey (PGY-5)
2) Eli Kinberg (PGY-3)
3) Benjamin Laitman (PGY-2)
4) Usmaan Basharat (PGY-1)

Team Bravo
1) Jaclyn Klimczak (PGY-4)
2) Caleb Fan (PGY-3)
3) Andrey Filimonov (PGY-3)
4) Peter Filip (PGY-3)

In addition to 4 ENT residents, there are 6 nurses, 1 clerk, and 2 critical care attendings working in the ENT ICU at any given time. Meals are not provided by the hospital and we are hoping that your donations can help nourish the ICU staff who are working 24-7 during this particularly stressful time.

The surgical ICU (SICU) has a similar complement of ICU staff.

The medical ICU (MICU) has 9 nurses, 10 residents/attendings, and 1 clerk at any given time.

In addition, any ancillary staff working in the unit that day (custodians, techs, etc) will be offered a meal as well!

We are hoping to raise money for a daily meal for these three Elmhurst ICUs for the next month.

1) ENT ICU:
$15 per meal x 13 staff members x 30 days = $5850

2) SICU:
$15 per meal x 13 staff members x 30 days = $5850

3) MICU:
$15 per meal x 20 staff members x 30 days = $9000

Goal: $5850 + $5850 + $9000 = $20,700

A nursing manager will be responsible for ordering the food for the ICUs and I will be responsible for reimbursing the nursing manager.

If we keep raising above and beyond our goal, I will keep reaching out to every Elmhurst unit. Let's feed this entire hospital!

Thank you once again for partnering with us.

Sincerely,
Caleb Fan
