Will you help fix and feed us?
Hi, my name is Whiskers, and I am a mother feral cat. This is me eating food from one of the kind people in my neighborhood. Life in the wild is incredibly challenging, especially when it comes to raising kittens. Did you know a single female cat can start reproducing as early as 5 months old and can have up to 3 litters per year, with each litter averaging four to six kittens? This means that one cat and her offspring can produce over 400,000 cats in just seven years! Unfortunately, many of these kittens face the same harsh conditions I do, with limited shelter and constant threats from starvation, injury, predators, traffic, and diseases. We are always on the lookout for food and shelter, and often go without, and many of us don't make it through the harsh conditions. Would you please help feed and fix us? Trap-neuter-release (TNR) programs have been shown to reduce feral cat populations by 66%, which means fewer kittens are born into these harsh conditions.
TNR allows us to live out our lives without the stress of constant reproduction, ensuring we can continue to benefit from our established territories and social structures. I am lucky, because I have a small group of concerned citizens who have come together to help us community and feral cats—the Poulsbo Feral Feline Fixers. They have collaborated with local residents facing community and feral cat problems, particularly those struggling financially to care for and fix the cats. They are currently finishing up at two locations. In the first, they spayed/neutered 40+ cats (thanks to the amazing donations through Kitsap/West Sound Community Cats Facebook donations) with at least 20 left. The second has 40+ cats, including at least 4 pregnant ones (appointments pending) and they saw at least four sets of kittens. Once they finish with these locations, they plan to move to others. (Suggestions for places needing help very much welcomed!)
Would you support us by donating to the TNR/food supply program they set up? Currently Kitsap Humane Society is only charging $35 a cat. You can make a huge difference in our lives. Your kindness and generosity can give us a chance at a better life. Thank you for listening to my plea for help!
