Hi, my name is Genoa and I’m fundraising for Cats of Curaçao – a cat rescue charity run single-handedly by an incredibly resilient woman, Mariette Hanssen. For over 12 years she has been rescuing stray cats from all parts of the island, but regularly gets urgent calls from hotels, beaches and tourists who have found ill and abandoned cats struggling to survive. Nobody helps her with the medical, vet or food costs that come with each rescue.

Every day in Curaçao, cats are left to fend for themselves—without food, clean water, or medical care. Many are injured, malnourished, or suffering from infections. Mariette never turns them away. No matter the time, the cost, or how exhausted she is, she shows up.

Today, she is caring for over 200 rescued cats. She is close to emotional burnout and financially depleted, she uses her own pension to pay for the sanctuary costs and the facilities she has needs maintenance. Long story short, her pension just isn't enough to cover everything.

Feeding them, treating illnesses, arranging sterilisations, and giving them a safe place to recover. It’s relentless, emotional work—and it comes with constant financial pressure.

Right now, the most urgent need is food, medicine, vet bills and cat litter.

Without immediate support, it becomes impossible to keep up with the daily demand of feeding so many cats. This is why I’m asking for your help.
