Giving back to Fawn Halverson

If you’ve spent any time around Island Park there’s a good chance you’ve felt the warmth of Fawn Halverson. Whether through a bowl of her homemade soup, fresh bread pulled from the oven or her welcoming smile behind the counter at Henry’s Lake Station or later at the Café at Island Park Lodge. Fawn has always been someone who took care of others.

For years, Fawn poured her heart into this community. At Henry’s Lake Station, she fed locals and travelers alike with homemade soups, fresh-baked breads, and the kind of food that makes you feel cared for. Later, she brought that same love and dedication to the Cafe at Island Park Lodge, where her cooking and warmth made people feel at home the moment they walked through the door.

Fawn has always been a giver.

Over the last year, her life changed in ways no one could prepare for.

Fawn suffered a debilitating stroke that left her unable to work. Just as she was trying to navigate recovery and the uncertainty that followed, she received another devastating diagnosis: breast cancer. Her treatment required the removal of both breasts, a life-altering surgery that no one ever imagines facing — physically, emotionally, or financially.

The medical bills have been relentless. Without the ability to work, everyday home expenses have continued to pile up. Recovery has been hard, exhausting, and overwhelming.

Through it all, her husband Bear has been unwavering — standing beside her every step of the way, doing everything he can to keep them afloat. But even the strongest people need help sometimes.

This is one of those times.

Island Park is a place where people show up for each other. Fawn showed up for this town day after day, serving meals, smiles, and comfort without ever asking for anything in return. Now, she needs the community she gave so much to, to show up for her.
