Help Fatima, Ali, Ruqayya afford bone marrow tran
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Ola Alshaikhli and I'm helping raise money for a family friend who needs this money to afford a bone marrow transplant for her and her family. Please consider donating if you can.
Here is Fatima's story:
Welcome
My name is Fatima. I am 23 years old. I live in Iraq. I graduated from the University of Baghdad in 2023, Department of Civil Engineering. Now I am a civil engineer.
My family consists of a father, mother, four sisters, and one brother. I suffer from a hereditary blood disease (Mediterranean/intermediate thalassemia) from 2004 to the present. I have an appointment every month for a blood transfusion. In 2019, I had surgery to remove (my spleen and gallbladder) due to my illness as I had an enlarged spleen due to frequent blood transfusions and increased iron levels in the body.
My brother is 26 years old. He also suffers from thalassemia major
1998 to date. He also underwent surgery to remove his gallbladder in 2018 and had surgery in 2023, To remove his spleen for the same reasons. He receives blood transfusions on a weekly basis, and he also contracted viral hepatitis because he was given non-compliant blood (i.e. negligence on the part of the hospital, they gave him the blood of an infected person and he transmitted the disease to him).
My sister, who is 12, also suffers from thalassemia. From 2012 until now. She has
Monthly appointment for blood transfusion. Thalassemia is a chronic disease, meaning there is no treatment for it except in one way, which is:
Performing a surgery called (bone marrow transplant). This process is done by taking A sample of the bone marrow of a healthy family member and transplanting it into the affected person. It is a very delicate process and requires time to isolate the patient. Then it is executed, and the patient receives all necessary vaccinations. In my country, there is no cure for this disease that is, it is not treated, and there is no medical staff to perform the operation except in other cases Countries In countries such as (Germany and Western countries) there is a procedure for the (bones procedure Marrow transplantation) to treat and get rid of this disease, but it is very expensive. There are three of us my older brother younger sister and I are injured, its way out of what we can pay, so we can't do it.
I hope for your support, I wish that this operation would be performed on my little sister first because she is still young. The sooner you treat it, the better your chances avoid splenectomy and other complications later on. I also hope you will support all of us; I will leave some reports that confirm my words about our illness to clarify further.
Best wishes,
Fatima
