I'm Bethan, a journalist from Wales, and Faten is a friend of mine from Khan Younis.

We met in Gaza City in 2022. I was interested in writing a story about her because she is an avid martial arts practitioner; she organised kung fu and self defence classes for girls on the Gaza beachfront, which was met with outrage from Hamas.

In response, Faten applied for funding and began crowdsourcing money to open Gaza's first all-female dojo, where girls and women could meet and train in privacy. The project did not get off the ground before the Hamas attack of 7 October 2023 and the war in Gaza.

I have been sending money to help Faten and her husband and three children survive, but with a total Israeli blockade now in its third month, the price of food and goods has soared and I can no longer manage this on my own. A bag of flour is now $500, if it can be found at all.

The family is desperate and beginning to starve. Please give what you can.
