Meet George F. Panther, aka Fat Panther, aka Jorge, aka Lil Paws X. He needs help to raise $3k for his medical care.
George is a stray who showed up at my door, aka the Peterson Manor for Wayward Cats, about seven years ago. As you can see he is the best of boys and he's sat on the laps of many of you reading this. He is only one of the few street cats that will come sit in your lap and likes to be pet. George has had problems breathing through his nose ever since he arrived.
Back in March of this year his ear began getting really gross, we're talking crust, goop, and blood from scratching it so much. The vet informed us he either had a polyp or tumor blocking his ear canal. Based on his history of breathing issues, we suspect it's a polyp. Diagnosis to proceed to a potential treatment began with scans that cost thousands of dollars which is unfortunately not something within the street cat budget, especially with my own 18 year-old cat at home. His ear was cleaned and he was sent home with antimicrobial ear drops and some hopes and prayers.
Six months later George's ear was still pretty gross and he now walked around with his head tilted ear down since it's filled with fluid which affects his equilibrium and makes him nauseous. At this point he had become very lethargic, mostly just sleeping in my neighbor's and my front yards. We took him back to the vet and were quoted $2,823 for a minor procedure to try remove the polyp and clear the blockage. Again, something not in the budget for one of ten street cats I care for.
Fast forward to Saturday Dec 6th. George decided to come inside the house, something he has done before but he typically just comes to say hi, maybe nap a little, and he takes off usually within an hour. He never left, and it was clear he wasn't well as he had stopped eating or drinking. He ended up staying the night leaving early in the morning to throw up outside. He came back that Sunday and proceeded to puke up nothing but clear fluid five times throughout the night before leaving in the early morning again. By Tuesday I thought he was dying, and made an appointment to take him to the vet on Wednesday for what may very well have been his euthanasia.
I woke up at 7am to George purring, looking much better, and ready to eat, which he did for the first time in 4 days. Quite the miracle of a turnaround but maybe four days inside in a warm bed was all he needed. I still brought him to the vet, where it was determined he again has a bad ear infection. He received subQ fluids, an ear cleaning and was sent home again with ear drops and oral antibiotics. Three days later he is doing and looking much better. It is still uncertain if this episode was related to the infection or something else.
Despite his huge improvement his ear is still clogged and it will become infected again. It's still filled with fluid that can only weep out slowly, leaving him walking around with a severe head tilt and really poor equilibrium - he cannot run anymore.
For a cat who has been through so much this year I've decided it's time to blow the budget and get him this procedure and I'm asking for your help getting there, so I'm setting a goal of $3k. George will be getting this procedure soon now, regardless of the goal being met.
