On January of 2020 my brother in law and sisters house in Montana froze causing a pipe to rupture while they were in California on vacation. The reason for the thermostat failing to heat the home is unknown. They were displaced from their home and many of their items were ruined by the water damage. Unfortunately that was the least of their problems. Renters insurance refused to cover home repairs and their landlord company (Balfour Beatty) put the costs on them for all damages and water extraction. A $27K debt (roughly $400-$600 payments for the next 5-6 years) could be enough to bankrupt them. They have talked to legal and their case is not strong due to lack of evidence of fault as well as the broad lease agreement they signed. They are currently preparing to move to Colorado and are stressed out of their minds with the cost and stressors of moving and now focusing a debt more expensive than a nice car. Anything will help truly. Thank you for reading and a big thank you if you support them with what you can.
