The roommates that were kidnapped were the main breadwinners of the household and my friend and the roommates still living there do not make enough money at their respective jobs to cover the entire rent cost for the apartment. The rent is $2,000/month, so that is the bare minimum that they need to be able to survive and take care of each other.

I have known this woman for a long time and she is like an aunt to me. I care about her extremely deeply and the trials she goes through just to live a good life in this country anger me to my core. Every dollar is another spoonful of food and a night under a warm roof for my friend and her roommates.
