Help Family Overcome Toxic Mold Nightmare
Donation protected
In August of 2023, we finally purchased our home in our dream town after it was remediated of black mold. I was pregnant, my son had just been attacked by a rooster and almost lost his eye (2 years old), and we were ready to call a place home after being suddenly displaced from the rental we were living in.
Immediately, we all became sick. We chalked it up to the stress of the rooster attack and had no idea the reality of what we were experiencing. Toxic mold and bacteria in hazardous levels in our place of refuge.
Several months in, an inability to eat or shake anxieties through my pregnancy and many illnesses and rare infections later, we discovered the mold was never properly remediated (if at all). The attic right above our bedroom was filled with toxic black mold that was making our family sick. My youngest son was born sick and was so swollen you couldn’t even see his sweet little eye lashes. My oldest son (3) regressed with odd sleep disturbances and my husband developed a rare necrotizing mouth infection for my sons and my birthday that luckily went away 2 days before our newborn arrived.
My husband's and my mental health suffered greatly in the home and I - who had never experienced anxiety - was stricken with debilitating anxiety that left me unable to eat for the pregnancy. My husband experienced terrible bouts of depression. We thought it was all linked to the stress of the attack.
We learned the company was dishonest, our roof has to come off to properly remediate, all of our things had to be removed from our home and most thrown away, our little guy had to leave all his new intentionally picked out birthday presents in the home and we’ve been out of our home for 3 months now while waiting for the environment to be safe again. 8 houses in 3 months later, we’re hoping remediation will be completed soon. Seeing the effects it has on my 3 year old is the absolute worst, he misses his space, doesn’t fully understand and just wants his home back!
Obviously, the financial burden of this has become large and our insurance isn’t covering a penny. We’re humbled to share our story with you.
Your support will help cover our additional housing costs on top of our $3200+ mortgage payment on the home we can’t live in. Your support will help cover the surmounting medical bills associated with the mold poisoning. It will also help with the remediation/decontamination costs associated with the home. Lastly, with the costs necessary to purchase all new things since we had to throw out a majority of our belongings.
