We are creating this with a lot of mixed
emotions. We do not typically share personal experiences of any matter online nor ask for
anything. That being said if ever a time to put aside our pride and privacy, now is it.
This past Sunday, we abruptly awoke to an
unfamiliar smell and sense something was off. We found that our house was on fire and had
seconds to evacuate ourselves. We got out
with nothing but the clothes we had slept in. Nobody was hurt and for that we are so very fortunate.
We lost everything else. Every single
belonging including our car. The most gut
wrenching of course is those items that
cannot be replaced; a lifetime of memories
and keepsakes.
We are a blended family of 7. Like most, we
have had to find out the hard way that we
were not properly insured. We found that in the state we live in, those who cohabitate and are not legally married or dependents of the mortgage/insurance holder are not covered under the policy at all unless they are listed as “additional insureds”. This was never explained to us by our agent and when contacted and said they “had no idea” of this requirement.
We understand times are hard right now for everyone especially with COVID. We recently had to close our small business and lay off employees because of the failing economy. That is why we are asking that if you could donate even just $1, it would help. Anything will help. Sharing this would help!
I know $20k seems like a lot but when we need to replace beds, shoes, towels, linens, kitchenware, hair supplies, devices, couches, appliances, every little thing we had taken for granted, it adds up quickly.
Thank you all and please, please, check with
your insurance carriers if you are cohabitating and not married to ensure EVERYONE is
covered in the event you need it!
If you would prefer to donate outside of this
(to avoid fees) we have a venmo and cash app.
