Help Family of 5 Flee War in Sudan

Hello everyone, we have a wonderful update to share with you about our campaign!

Thanks to the generosity of a teacher in our local community who wishes to remain anonymous, all your donations will be matched 1:1 outside GoFundMe!

Simultaneously, we have decided to increase the total amount of money we aim to raise from $11,900 to $15,000 CAD. The additional $3100 will go toward monthly expenses like rent, bills, food etc. helping to support the family of five for an additional 3 months according to our budget outlined below (please see previous post for details).

Our anonymous donor is willing to match your donations up to $7,500! This means that if we can raise $7,500 with your help then our total goal of $15,000 will be reached thanks to their 1:1 contribution.

Therefore, our updated goal inside GoFundMe is now $7500.00.

We hope this fantastic news will reignite the momentum of our campaign. The situation in Sudan has grown very dire for this family and they need to evacuate as soon as possible. Your donations are needed now more than ever. With the donations being matched, you're effectively doubling the impact of every contribution. So please consider donating again and sharing this post with family and friends.

Thank you for all your help so far. Please spread the word!

ORIGINAL POST:

Hello, I am raising money to help my extended family flee the ongoing war in Sudan. Specifically, I am raising money for my cousin, her spouse, and their three children (a family of 5) to leave for Uganda where they will be safe.

Like millions of Sudanese people, my cousin’s family was displaced when their village was taken over by the RSF, a paramilitary group. They lost their home and most of their belongings. They are now living under unsafe and unsanitary conditions and the ongoing war could reach them any day. They must leave Sudan as soon as possible while they still have a chance.

This fundraiser aims to provide them with the resources to travel to Uganda. This will require financial support for visas, tickets, rent, bills, daily living expenses, healthcare, and pocket money.

Below is a breakdown of the costs for their journey:
Plane tickets
  • $720.00 per ticket * 5 people = $3600.00
Bus to airport
  • $60.00 per ticket * 5 people = $300.00
Hotel: Because the journey to the nearest airport is very long, they will need to travel to the airport a day in advance to make their flight.
  • Hotel room for one night = $150.00
Pocket money for food, water, etc. for the entire journey
  • $60 * 5 people = $300.00
Visas to enter Uganda
  • $200.00 * 5 people = $1000.00
Taxi to destination in Uganda
  • $150.00
When they arrive in Uganda, we would like to provide them with two months’ rent and living expenses.
Rent
  • $400.00 * 2 months = $800.00
Food
  • $200.00 * 2 months = $400.00
Phone and internet bills
  • $50.00 * 3 people * 2 months = $300.00
Pocket money in Uganda
  • $50.00 * 5 people * 2 months = $500.00
Healthcare expenses
  • $100.00 * 5 people = $500.00
Clothing (they currently have very few clothing items):
  • $100.00 * 5 people = $500.00
Furnishing Apartment: Apartments are unfurnished so they must purchase some appliances and basic furniture.
  • Fridge = $700.00
  • Oven = $650.00
  • Laundry machine = $550.00
  • Cleaning Supplies etc = $100.00
  • 4 Mattresses = $200.00 * 4 = $800.00
  • Linens = $100.00
Finally, we would like to raise $500.00 for the youngest child of the family who will need ongoing healthcare for her severe asthma, including regular checkups. This money would also allow for medical care if there is an asthma attack before, during, or after their journey to Uganda. This would help cover the costs of transportation and hospital stay if needed.

Therefore, the total amount we hope to raise is: CAD 11,900.00

Thank you for taking the time to learn about my family’s situation. Your help would be invaluable and truly lifesaving. No donation is too small to make a difference, but even just sharing this post can go a long way.

Note: This is an updated version of our original post with a new, smaller goal than before.

Thank you again.
