Help Family Displaced By Volcano

Story

Starting the night of May 3rd, after a series of earthquakes, volcanic fissures began opening up in Leilani Estates, the neighborhood I grew up in on the island of Hawaii. Over the next few days, lava fissures erupted all over Leilani Estates, including two on either side of my dad's house. My dad bought a piece of property in Leilani when I was 7 years old (I am 23 now), and during my entire childhood, he put every dollar he earned into building his house -- from clearing the property with a machete, to laying the cement slab, to finally getting electricity. His home, like most homes in Leilani Estates, is uninsured, because many insurance companies don't insure homes in the lava rift zone. My dad and his girlfriend has been living in the Keaau and Pahoa emergency shelters since they were forced to evacuate the night of the 3rd, and it is unclear if our home will be standing by the time this is over. Right now, it doesn't seem like people will be able to return to their homes any time soon (lava fissures have erupted  or are expected to erupt at both entrances to the neighborhood), so my dad is planning to build a temporary structure on a friend's lot. The money raised through this campaign will help my dad build a cabin that he and his girlfriend can live in until they know for sure what their next steps are.Since the lava has begun to flow, my dad has not been able to go to work and most of his tools (he is a carpenter and mechanic) are in a storage unit. What money raised from this campaign that doesn't go toward helping him build a temporary structure will help sustain him and his girlfriend while he is without work.My dad has always lived a humble lifestyle, but no matter what, he has made a point of feeding, housing, and helping his friends in need. It would mean so much if you could help him at a time when things really are out of his hands. Thank you for your support -- this means so, so much. To the extent this site makes it possible, I will post updates of his progress building the cabin.News article: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2018/05/06/a-very-fast-moving-situation-lava-shoots-through-hawaii-neighborhood-as-new-fissures-form/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.5acb7255187d USGS Update: https://volcanoes.usgs.gov/volcanoes/kilauea/status.html
