Help Family Displaced by Devastating House Fire

Donation protected
Hello amazing and beloved Seattle community! In the middle of the night on Saturday, 6/28/25, our family experienced a house fire, originating with our dryer. All of us got out - including the cat! - and will all be ok, which is absolutely the most important thing, and we are grateful beyond words!

Now we are facing a mountain of logistics and uncertainty. Unfortunately, this comes on the heels of a rough last year. I had to have my right eye removed a little over a year ago, and complications from that made the medical bills pile up. Then, in March of this year, I abruptly lost my job after almost a decade of service, when the business owner suddenly needed to retire, and chose to close the business down. In attempting to handle the fall out from the fire, we discovered that my abrupt loss of income led to a missed insurance payment, which caused cancellation of our policy in April, unbeknownst to us. Apparently they sent notice to an incorrect address and we never received it. We discovered we no longer had it when we called to file our fire claim. Even after being a customer with the same policy for almost 8 years, and offering to make the missed payment, they will not help us or reinstate our insurance - we have to completely start over, and it will not cover the fire.

A life altering medical event, followed by unexpected job loss, followed by fire displacement is a LOT to handle. Our family is in great need of your support. Our family, friends, and neighbors have been tremendous - our land lady is among them, and is doing everything she can to restore our apartment and get us back in, but we have been told this could take 6 months or more. We will sadly have a lot to replace, including almost all of our two children’s belongings, who’s room shared a wall with the laundry closet. We have to cover temporary housing for the rest of the year to keep our kids in their school, and to keep my husband on track with his job. We will have to furnish the temporary home, or pay a lot more to rent a furnished home, in addition to trying to recover what was lost for our boys. These costs are rapidly piling up, and we are humbly asking for any help you can give us. Being able to cover the next 6-8 months of living and expenses while we get back on our feet would mean everything to our family. Thank you so, so much!!
