Today, my life changed in an instant. I was at work when my office called me after someone in my neighborhood alerted them that my house was on fire. I rushed home as fast as I could, my heart pounding, only to find the roof collapsed and flames consuming everything. Just when we thought the worst was over, the fire reignited, and we had to call the fire department back out to put it out for a second time. The devastation has left me, my two children, and my unborn baby—who is due in just four weeks—without a home and without the essentials we need to get by day to day. It’s hard to put into words how overwhelming it feels to lose everything so suddenly, but I’m doing my best to stay hopeful and take things one step at a time.

This loss has been especially hard on my kids, who have lost all of their belongings, and on me as I recently had my baby shower and those precious items were also lost in the fire. To make things even harder, it’s Christmas time and we lost all of our Christmas gifts in the fire. Right now, we’re facing the immediate challenge of finding temporary housing, securing food, and replacing basic necessities for all of us. The costs of starting over and eventually finding a new place to live are daunting, and I’m reaching out for help during this difficult time. Every bit of support will go directly toward helping my family rebuild and regain stability after this tragedy.
