Help Family After Earthquake
Donation protected
On Friday September 8 2023, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Morocco, affecting over 350km of the country. Most of the worst effects were in the mountains to the south of Marrakech. The Assouki family lives in the town of Moulay Brahim, one of the worst affected by the earthquake. They lost Souad, her three small children (including a 2-day-old baby girl), and her mother. Other members of the family are safe but many have lost their homes completely, and much of their savings. We (Colleen Daley & Yassine Assouki, an American-Moroccan couple living in Rabat) are raising money so that Assouki family members (cousins of the family in Moulay Brahim) from Rabat can help their family to help them get back on their feet.
We are collecting funds to first bring needed urgent supplies to the family, and then to help them with longer term projects like rebuilding their house, rebuilding the barn where they keep their sheep, and helping them get other essentials they have lost, like furniture and clothing. Money goes a long way in the rural areas of the mountains, and Yassine will be managing the funds personally. The initial plan is for Omar, Yassine's father and cousin to the affected family), to go this weekend from Rabat to Moulay Brahim to see what people need, and bring some urgent supplies. Yassine and maybe his brother Hassan will also go down later to help with the rebuilding, and use our card to bring more supplies as the roads clear and the area is safer.
