Bolívar may be a small town in Colombia that most of you have never heard of, but to me, it is home.

My brother, nephews, father, grandmother, aunts, cousins, and many close friends live there. It is where I spent my summer vacations and Christmases growing up, where some of my most cherished memories were made, and where I met my wife Laura.

Today, after the earthquake, many families in Bolívar and the surrounding rural communities are facing damage to their homes, especially roofs and walls, while others also need food and essential supplies.

That is why I created this fundraiser.

The money raised will be used to purchase:

* Food and essential groceries.

* Construction materials for urgent home repairs.

Whenever possible, these items will be purchased directly from local stores, hardware shops, and suppliers in Bolívar. This way, every donation can help twice: supporting families affected by the earthquake while also helping local businesses and workers recover.

Making sure help reaches those who need it most

I will coordinate with the Municipality of Bolívar to identify and prioritize the most affected families, both in town and in rural areas.

For full transparency, my brother Julian Muriel is the mayor of Bolívar. The Municipality **will not receive or manage any of the funds**. Its role is only to help identify where the needs are greatest and where the food and materials should be delivered.

I will personally manage the funds and coordinate the purchases.

Why Bolívar matters

Bolívar is home to the SARA BRUT reservoir and water system, which helps provide drinking water to communities across northern Valle del Cauca and serves approximately 200,000 people.

Because GoFundMe does not currently support direct withdrawals in Colombia, I will receive the funds in Canada and coordinate their transfer to Colombia for these purchases.

I will also share updates showing what has been purchased and where the assistance has been delivered.

Any contribution, no matter the amount, can help put food on a family’s table, repair a damaged roof or wall, and support a community trying to recover.

Bolívar puede ser un pequeño pueblo de Colombia del que la mayoría de ustedes nunca haya oído hablar, pero para mí, es mi hogar.

Mi padre, mi hermano, mis sobrinos, mi abuela, mis tías, mis primos y muchos amigos cercanos viven allí. Es el lugar donde pasé mis vacaciones de verano y Navidades mientras crecía, donde construí algunos de los recuerdos más preciados de mi vida y donde conocí a mi esposa Laura.

Hoy, después del terremoto, muchas familias de Bolívar y de las comunidades rurales aledañas enfrentan daños en sus viviendas, especialmente en techos y paredes. Otras también necesitan alimentos y productos de primera necesidad.

Por eso decidí crear esta campaña.

El dinero recaudado será utilizado para comprar:

Alimentos y productos básicos.

Materiales de construcción para reparaciones urgentes de viviendas.

Estos productos y materiales serán comprados directamente en tiendas, ferreterías y proveedores de Bolívar. De esta manera, cada donación puede ayudar dos veces: apoyando a las familias afectadas por el terremoto y, al mismo tiempo, ayudando a los negocios y trabajadores locales a recuperarse.

Asegurarnos de que la ayuda llegue a quienes más la necesitan

Trabajaré de la mano con la Alcaldía de Bolívar para identificar y priorizar a las familias más afectadas, tanto en el casco urbano como en las zonas rurales.

Por total transparencia, mi hermano Julian Muriel es el alcalde de Bolívar. La Alcaldía no recibirá ni administrará ninguno de los fondos recaudados. Su función será únicamente ayudarnos a identificar dónde están las mayores necesidades y dónde deben ser entregados los alimentos y materiales.

Yo personalmente administraré los fondos y coordinaré las compras.

Por qué Bolívar es importante

Bolívar alberga el embalse y sistema de abastecimiento de agua SARA BRUT, que ayuda a suministrar agua potable a comunidades del norte del Valle del Cauca y beneficia aproximadamente a 200.000 personas.

Bolívar da agua y vida a miles de personas todos los días. Hoy, Bolívar necesita que le devolvamos un poco de esa ayuda.

Debido a que GoFundMe actualmente no permite retirar fondos directamente en Colombia, recibiré el dinero en Canadá y coordinaré su transferencia a Colombia para realizar estas compras.

También compartiré actualizaciones mostrando qué se ha comprado y dónde ha sido entregada la ayuda.

Cualquier aporte, sin importar el monto, puede ayudar a poner alimentos en la mesa de una familia, reparar un techo o una pared dañada y apoyar a una comunidad que está intentando recuperarse.
