Pakistan experienced intense and prolonged monsoon rains in July 2025, with much higher than average precipitation recorded across Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and parts of Azad Kashmir. According to meteorological data, the rainfall exceeded seasonal norms by a massive 40%, leading to widespread urban flooding, landslides, and disruption of essential services. Low-lying urban areas, informal settlements, and communities along rivers and drainage channels were among the hardest hit. The sudden downpours overwhelmed existing drainage infrastructure, exposing the vulnerability of already at-risk populations. Over 150 people have died and over 300 have been reported injured during the flooding across the country.
In the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, the situation turned particularly dire as the Nala Lai River and its tributaries overflowed, flooding surrounding residential colonies and informal settlements. In Islamabad, flash floods triggered by spillovers from Rawal Dam and clogged natural drainage channels submerged entire communities in sectors G-8, H-9, and I-10. Similarly, Rawalpindi witnessed serious flooding in Dhok Charagh Din, Raheemabad, Gawalmandi, and Bhatta Nek Alam — areas known for inadequate flood defenses and densely packed low-quality, informal housing.
These monsoon floods caused significant loss of property, personal belongings, and livelihoods, especially among poor and marginalized families. Elderly persons, children, women-headed households, and persons with disabilities were particularly affected. In this context, Families for Pakistan (FFPak) conducted a rapid field assessment of severely affected households to document immediate humanitarian needs and advocate for timely relief and recovery support.
We here at Family First Global in partnership with Families For Pakistan are already meeting the tremendous need of many of these displaced families. But now we are urgently seeking your support to expand our response to this humanitarian crisis and help more vulnerable families recover with dignity. Your contribution will provide:
• Immediate relief items (food, water, shelter, hygiene kits)
• Rehabilitation support (repair of latrines, provision of bedding)
• Protection of women, children, and persons with disabilities
• Restoration of lost livelihoods and basic health access
These families are living through the aftermath of a silent humanitarian crisis in urban Pakistan. The flood may have receded, but their needs remain urgent and unmet. Your timely support can restore hope and dignity to these families at a critical time. We welcome your solidarity, resources, or collaboration. All donations are tax deductible and 100% of donations will go to Families for Pakistan for relief for flood victims.
