Hi, I’m Genn — based in Brisbane, Australia with roots in the Philippines.
My father’s hometown, Nangka in Balamban, Cebu, is one of the areas severely affected by Typhoon Tino (Kalmaegi).
Although we didn’t grow up there, we visited our cousins and relatives in Nangka when we were little — and we still carry fond memories of their warmth and sense of community. It breaks our hearts to see how much they’re suffering right now.
When the typhoon struck, floodwaters rose so quickly that children, parents, and grandparents had to climb onto rooftops in the heavy rain and strong winds just to stay alive. Some found shelter in nearby schools, while others lost everything — their homes, belongings, and the comfort of safety.
The town remains without electricity, clean water, or internet, and many families are staying in schools and evacuation centres while trying to clean up and rebuild what’s left.
Why I’m Asking for Help
We may be far away, but our hearts are close to home.
The people of Nangka are humble and resilient — families who work hard and always look out for one another. But this time, they need a helping hand to recover and rebuild.
I’ve decided to start this fundraiser to support families in Nangka, Balamban — to help provide food, clean water, basic necessities, and materials to rebuild their homes.
Every Bit Helps
Any amount you’re able to give — no matter how small — will make a difference.
Your kindness can help a family in Nangka rebuild their home, restore access to clean water, and find hope again after the storm.
Even if you can’t donate, sharing this page will help spread the word and reach more people who can.
Thank You
Though I’m a bit hesitant to share this publicly, I feel deeply moved to do something for the place my family once called home.
Your compassion means the world — not just to me, but to every family in Nangka who’s trying to rebuild their lives.
Together, we can help them find light again after the storm.
Thank you for your kindness and support.
— Genn (for the people of Nangka, Balamban)
