Help families at 35 Dean St who lost everything
Donation protected
On Monday, March 14, a five-alarm fire destroyed the homes of the nine families who lived at 35 Dean Street at Boerum Place.
These Boerum Hill neighbors have lived in our community for many years - some for decades. While we are fortunate that none of the 18 injuries were life-threatening - many residents lost everything they owned today. The nine households who have been living here include two families with kids, three dogs, two cats, and a fish.
I am often inspired by the compassion and generosity of the Boerum Hill neighborhood. Indeed, one of our neighbors welcomed victims of the fire into their empty basement apartment because they were struggling to find a hotel room that would accommodate their cats.
While much of what was lost today can never be replaced, please give what you can to help these families get back on their feet.
Ben and Susan Hudgens lived at 35 Dean for many years. They will equitably distribute the resources to all of the families who lived in the building.
